Description

The aim of the Virtual Biomechanical Laboratory is to develop a framework and exemplar use of Virtual Reality (VR) equipment and software that offer a more effective way of teaching UoS students fundamental knowledge of human anatomy and physiology and the opportunity for an improved contextualization of in silico medicine applications. The labs will give the students key competences to model the cardiovascular system and help in the design of medical devices, their interactions within the 3D anatomy of the body, their biomechanical performance and function, and their use in surgical pre-operative planning. The students will simulate the treatment of a cardiovascular condition, intracranial aneurysm, through the deployment of a medical device, flow-diverting stent, in a patient-specific biomechanical model.
